A formal valuation can be required at many stages before, during, and after property ownership. Before the acquisition, most purchasers and/or mortgagees will require at least a valuation of the property concerned to ensure that it is priced correctly and there are unlikely to be any unforeseen problems. If the property is taken in the name of a trust or company, it will need regular revaluations throughout ownership. When it is later disposed of, another formal valuation might be required--especially if the transaction isn't at arm's length!
